About St Peter Pontardawe
St Peter’s Church Pontardawe is situated in the town of Pontardawe, Neath Port Talbot. The church is located in the historic Parish of Pontardawe, which is also sometimes referred to as the Parish of Llangiwg. Llangiwg is an ancient name for the Parish, and its former official name.
The church building was consecrated on St Peter’s Day, July 31st 1862. The church was built to meet the growing population of the Swansea Valley due to the expansion of the coal and iron industries of the area, and to provide a church building that would be closer to the centre of the population than the ancient Parish Church of St Ciwg, situated in the hills above the now-growing town.
The church’s vision is to promote the faith of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in all that we do. For us this means sharing with God in his work to reach out into his world. In the name of the Lord, we warmly welcome anyone who wishes to share in this vision; anyone who feels that they have lost their way and need guidance; and any in our community or simply visiting Pontardawe who wish to join us for worship.
